Shared Spectrum Company Launches Spectrum Sensing Toolbox for the Ettus Research Platform at CTIA WIRELESS 2012
Shared Spectrum Company (SSC), the leading innovator of dynamic spectrum access and cognitive radio technology software solutions, announced that its Spectrum Sensing Toolbox (SST) is now available on the Ettus Research Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP™) platform. The Ettus USRP enables a low-cost host platform for customers wanting to develop applications or test with the SST before migrating to their own commercial system.
“The USRP family of software defined radios is ideal for developing dynamic spectrum access (DSA) and cognitive radio systems because it is flexible and low cost,” said Matt Ettus, president of Ettus Research. “The radios are available in a variety of form factors, from desktop to embedded, and offer seamless transition from rapid development to deployable communications systems.”
SSC’s first commercial software product, SST gives wireless devices highly precise radio frequency sensing capabilities to make more efficient use of spectrum. Femtocells, for example, can now operate in the TV White Space (TVWS) and other spectrum bands and avoid interference with other conflicting devices, such as wireless microphones, TV transmitters and other emitters. The SST improves the quality of service for SST-enabled TVWS devices, enabling access to more spectrum. It also can operate as a stand-alone, sensing-only device in accordance with the FCC’s rules or to increase performance of database-connected systems.
“The SST is enabling the rapid development of wireless applications and wireless devices that adapt to RF interference and provide a new level of spectrum access and quality of service to consumer and enterprise customers,” said Tom Stroup, CEO of SSC. “We are excited to welcome Ettus Research as a new partner.”
SSC will be demonstrating its technology at Innovation Showcase @ CTIA WIRELESS 2012 (booth 4051) May 8-10, 2012 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
